Midfielder delighted to be part of winning team on his full debut for Crawley Town
Emmett O’Connor was delighted to make his first competitive start for Reds on Tuesday – and show his versatility at the same time!
The 22-year-old Canadian started the game on the right of midfield, had a spell on the left and then did a turn at left back during the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against Cambridge United.
But most importantly, Emmett was part of a Crawley team who halted a run of four defeats with a 2-0 win that sealed a place in Saturday’s second round draw.
Emmett has made four substitute appearances this season, after signing a one-year contract last month following a successful trial.
He said: “It was great to get my first start and more importantly be part of a win for the team.
“I don’t mind where I play to be honest but either side of midfield – right or left – is my strongest position. I haven’t played left-back too often but I was happy to slot in there and do a job for the team.”
An own goal and Charles Banya’s first senior goal sealed Reds’ win and Emmett says the victory has given confidence a big lift ahead of Saturday’s home game with Rochdale in Sky Bet League One.
“The boys were really happy afterwards,” he added. “The Gaffer made a few changes and it was quite a young team in many respects but I thought we played very well in the second half. We can’t wait for Saturday now – this is hopefully going to be a platform for us to build on.”
