Young people learn the basics in Community Foundation event
As part of our continual commitment to the development of young people, Crawley Town Community Foundation hosted a FA Junior Football Leaders Award recently for those aged 12-15.
A total of 20 young people were in attendance, and learned the basics of football leadership, refereeing, competition styles and pathways within the game. In addition to being involved in the course, the young people were also given the opportunity to meet Head Coach Dermot Drummy and assistant Matt Gray, who were there to answer questions, sign autographs and provide tips and advice to our new leaders.
In order to complete the course, the young people are now required to put their newly developed skills into practice, by delivering four hours of football leadership/work experience in the community.
Many of the young people have chosen to complete their hours on Community Foundation projects, including Development Centres, Kicks and assisting with matchdays.
Yohann Chamtyoo, one of the young people from our Kicks project, said: “The course was good because I learnt about being a leader and a referee.
“I didn’t know that there were different signals that the referees used within a game, so that was fun. I am going to do my leadership hours on Kicks, helping the coach to run the session and helping my friends.”
