Cox is a Red

13 September 2016

Midfielder signs on until end of 2018-19 season

The club are delighted to confirm that midfielder Dean Cox is to join the Reds.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract after he left Leyton Orient by mutual consent earlier this month.

Dean, who lives in Haywards Heath, started his career with Brighton & Hove Albion in 2004 and made 179 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 22 goals.

In 2010 Dean joined Leyton Orient and made 275 appearances for the O’s where he became a popular figure with their supporters. He scored 59 goals for the club and was a member of the squad which reached the League One play-off final in 2014.

Dean won’t be able to make his debut until January 2 because he was signed outside the transfer window but he will be training with his new team-mates between now and then.

Head Coach Dermot Drummy said: “I am delighted we have managed to get this over the line and to welcome Dean to Crawley.

“He will give us so many good options. He gets goals, he also gets a lot of assists and he’s a hard working player who gives everything every time he goes onto the pitch.

“We’ve had some good discussions during the negotiations with Dean. He knows a lot of people at the club on and off the pitch which I think will help him settle in and although it’s frustrating that we can’t play him for a while we have the option of loaning him out to a Conference South club.

“We can also arrange practice matches for Dean and, of course, he’ll be training with us as part of the squad.

“The owners and directors and Kelly (Derham) have worked hard to get this deal done and we look forward to welcoming Dean to the club Tuesday.”
