Head Coach after Carlisle draw and preserved Football League status
Dermot Drummy admitted it was a relief to secure the Reds a seventh consecutive season in the Football league after the weekend's 3-3 draw with Carlisle United.
Jimmy Smith's last-gasp leveller meant the hosts will ply their trade in EFL Two again next term, and the Head Coach emphasised how vital preserving league status was to everyone at the football club.
"I know the way we started the season meant that we began to have higher hopes, but then we've been on a poor run recently. To then realise that you may lose that league status makes you realise how much it means," he said.
"We let in three poor goals and we had to change the system around, so to get the goal in the dying moments showed great spirit.
"Is it a success to stay in this league? Yes it is because there's big teams in the division.
"We've put a lot of new faces together and it's very important to keep the structure here at the club, because people lose their jobs if things don't go well."
In his first season in senior management the Head Coach has overseen an influx of new players under new ownership, and also looked to implement a settled group of backroom staff at the club too.
He believes that the foundations laid this year will only help the club going forward.
"I really believe that everything we've learnt this year will stand us in good stead for next season," he continued.
"We know we need to improve in some areas but we've got a good core of players now which does take time to grow, we're building steadily with diligence and hopefully we can improve and we'll all be wiser for the future."
