Reds skipper on Saturday's goal celebration in Carlisle draw
Jimmy Smith made no secret of the delight and relief that came with his crucial equalising goal in Saturday's draw with Carlisle United.
The Reds captain volleyed home in the 92nd minute to grab a point for the hosts on a dramatic afternoon at the Checkatrade Stadium, and emphasised how much the resulting celebrations meant to the players, staff and the football club after the 3-3 draw.
"We knew about the tension that had been coming from the poor run and it was just pure relief at the end," said the captain.
"So when I scored it was about celebrating with everyone together - the eleven that started, the substitutes and the entire bench and staff.
"We'll have ups and down but it's about this group sticking together and looking to push on."
It was a contest that saw the side surrender a two-goal lead in the second period before the captain's leveller, and the midfielder admitted that it was disappointing to lose the lead in the manner in which they did.
"We were in control of the game and got two good goals," he continued.
"But we gave away sloppy chances and you thought it wasn't going to be our day - but I was just so pleased to get the goal at the end which means we're safe."
The central midfielder revealed that Dermot Drummy and himself have regular conversations about his runs into the box - a prominent feature of his game this season, with seven goals to his name so far with two games of the campaign remaining.
"The manager is always talking to me about timing my runs and when I saw Andre (Blackman) hit it towards Joe (McNerney) I knew where I had to be and luckily it went in at the near post."
"We had a lot of chances in the game and we definitely deserved the point."
