Jimmy Smith picks out some of his and the team's highlights from last season
The skipper reflects on his favourite goal, toughest opponent and more.
Favourite game?
I’d say probably the Colchester game back in February where I scored my hat-trick, that was the highlight for me.
My second one was one of my best, obviously it made the Goal of the Season shortlist but wasn’t deemed quite as good as Josh Payne’s free-kick against Wycombe Wanderers.
It was a perfect hat-trick though, the first with head, then that right-footed half volley and the third was on my left!
Best team performance?
Doncaster Rovers away when we drew 1-1, our first away league game of the season.
We all came away that afternoon thinking we should have won - they’ve ended up winning promotion and we were disappointed that afternoon so it shows what we’re capable of.
Best team goal?
Jordan Roberts’ goal from the corner away to Bristol Rovers in our FA Cup replay in November because it was something we really worked on in training.
I took the corner itself and then everyone had a part to play in it. People new which runs they had to make to take certain people away and make space for Jordan – it was a good team goal and rewarding after the work we’d done.
Best personal goal?
The second against Colchester like we said before was good, and I’d say my goal at home to Newport County was special too.
My Grandad had passed away recently then and my Mum and Dad were there in the crowd where he used to come and watch. I got to celebrate with them and you all saw how much it meant to me and my family.
Toughest opponents you’ve faced?
Michael Doyle and Danny Rose from Portsmouth back in the home game in February.
They’re the best two midfielders I’ve played against thos year and they’ve gone on to win promotion.
Best ground we’ve played at?
Fratton Park was loud when we played there – and I’d say Molineux when we played Wolves in the cup too, two good crowds with good atmospheres.
