A look back at the goals and action from the second month of 2016/17 campaign

The second month of the campaign saw the side score seven goals and pick up back to back league victories for the first time of the season.

September began with a 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth at Fratton Park on the south coast – a first half brace from Curtis Main and a strike from Gary Roberts did the damage for Paul Cook’s men.

A week later the Reds travelled to Stevenage Borough where they were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline – goals from Tyler Walker and Jack King gave the hosts the three points despite James Collins’ late close range header.

The side’s first win of the month came when they defeated Luton Town 2-0 at the Checkatrade Stadium – goals from Collins and Enzio Boldewijn sealed a welcome win for Dermot Drummy’s side.

Seven days later the fans who made the long trip to the north-west to Morecambe’s Globe Arena were rewarded with a memorable 3-2 victory. Five goals in the final 20 minutes of the game meant a frantic finale – goals from Adi Yussuf, James Collins and Jimmy Smith were enough to seal a narrow win despite strikes from Michael Rose and Cole Stockton.

That was followed by a 1-1 draw with Colchester United three days later – Adi Yussuf had put the Reds ahead before a late equaliser from Chris Porter meant the spoils were shared.
