Boss delighted with performance in Senior Cup victory

John Gregory praised the professionalism of his players after Reds eased through to the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Lewis Young, with a hat-trick, Gavin Tomlin and Ryan Richefond all scored their first competitive goals for the club in Tuesday night’s 6-2 win over St Francis Rangers at Oakwood with Conor Henderson completing the scoring.

The draw for the last 16 will take place on a date to be confirmed in November.

John said: “I thought we played with the professionalism I expected.

“Some of the lads needed 90 minutes under their belt so it was a good exercise from that point of view and we were able to try people out in different positions, such as Banj (Lanre Oyebanjo) at centre-half.

“We scored some good goals which is always important for confidence if you’re a striker against a side who worked extremely hard. St Francis gave us a good game, got a couple of goals themselves and I’m sure they enjoyed the experience. We wish them all the best for the remainder of their season.”

The focus now turns to Saturday’s crucial League One game at home to Crewe.

“It’s a huge one for us because three points at home in front of our own fans will lift us into the top half of the table,” said John, who should have everyone available apart from Ryan Dickson and Emmet O’Connor, who are not far away as they recover from ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.
