Time to bounce back

Midfielder Wordsworth says Reds have to show their resolve against Crewe

Anthony Wordsworth admits Reds cannot afford to make a slow start in any of their remaining games if they are to avoid the drop.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Gillingham came after Crawley had reeled off three successive wins to give everyone hope that we can keep out of the bottom four.

But we go into Friday’s game back in 21st place and take on the side immediately above us, Crewe Alexandra, at Gresty Road.

“I can’t stress how big a game Friday is now. We had our chance on Saturday to climb away and we were all devastated afterwards,” the midfielder said.

“We started poorly and can’t afford to do that again in any of the remaining games. In the second half we made the pitch bigger, stretched them a bit and Izale (McLeod) got us back in it

but then to concede near the end in the manner we did was so disappointing.

“But we’ve been through the game and now the focus is on Friday and then another big one back here next Monday against Oldham.

“We’re still confident we can get out of trouble but it’s really vital we are back playing as we can on Friday and that we bounce back.”
