Conns: Time to roll our sleeves up

Defender promises positive reaction after poor run

Mark Connolly insists Reds will respond in a positive way to a run of bad results.

Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Crewe was our fifth in a row but there is a quick opportunity to bounce back on Tuesday when we visit high-flying Brentford in SkyBet League One.

And the defender, who was man of the match against Crewe, reckons tackling the second-placed promotion chasers is just the challenge the squad needs.

He said: "After our run no one will fancy our chances of getting a result up there, but that can hopefully work in our favour. We have done well against the good teams throughout the season and going to Brentford is as tough as it gets.

"We know we are a better side than recent results suggest but it's no use saying that, we need to start putting the performances in and make sure we start climbing the table again.

"Brentford will be a massive test but we are looking forward to it. The schedule has been tough but one of the benefits is that there is always another game along soon to get a bad result out of your system."

Conns said that the players had a heart-to-heart after Saturday's game in the changing room.

"We were honest with each other," he added. "I'm not going to say what was said because that stays in the changing room but we are well aware that the position we are in is not good enough. With the quality in our squad we should be doing better but there are still eight games left and 24 points to play for and from now on we have to go into every one of them believing that we can get a result."

Manager John Gregory hopes to have Matt Tubbs and Andy Drury available at Griffin Park while Dannie Bulman is available after suspension.

The manager confirmed that both Hiram Boateng and Sullay Kaikai have returned to Crystal Palace following the end of their loan spells.
