It truly is the end of an era at Crawley Town as Vic Marley steps down as chairman after six years in the job.
Dave Pottinger, a director for the last three years, will be Vic’s replacement.
When Vic took over in May 2007 the club as at a low ebb but since then they have gone from strength to strength with back to back promotions and two glorious FA Cup runs. Vic steps down with Reds having just completed a successful first season in League One when they finished tenth.
Vic said: “I first joined the board in 1999 when we were in the Dr Martens League. Working full-time for the Crawley Town cause for the last 14 years has been personally worthwhile and seeing our rise up the football pyramid has been immensely satisfying.
“I have had the support of some very loyal and dedicated people who fought to preserve our status through some difficult times during the early days of my involvement with the club.
“The last six years have certainly been eventful but it has been an honour and a pleasure to be chairman during the most successful period in the club’s history.
“There have been many highlights, particularly over the last three years, including the FA Cup tie against Manchester United which brought us into the spotlight and was made partly possible by the financial investment of the current owners.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time as chairman and for me the greatest satisfaction is seeing the club in a far better position than when I joined, with a dedicated management team looking to continue the progress we have made.
“In Dave I think we have a worthy successor. He is very passionate about this football club and wants to help take it forward and continue to build on the foundations we have put in place. I will still be attending every game. The club is in my blood and always will be.”
Dave Pottinger said: “Vic is one hell of an act to follow but it is an honour and a privilege that he recommended me to the board for the job and I am delighted to accept.
“Vic has been an outstanding chairman and his knowledge of football and people in the game is second to none and has helped me no end since I came onto the board.
“The club is in a great position now, on and off the field, to really grow and establish itself at this level and perhaps push into the Championship.
“We have a great manager in Richie Barker and a really hardworking backroom team under CEO Richard Low. Our fans are second to none – they love their club and hopefully together we can enjoy more success.
“I have had some fantastic memories during the past three years and I'm sure there will be a lot more to come in the future.”
Chief Executive Richard Low: “Vic has been a huge part of the success Crawley Town have enjoyed in recent years and he is going to be a hard act to follow. But Dave Pottinger shares his passion for the football club and I’m sure we can continue to grow from strength to strength.”
