Charity match raises £1,300

30 July 2015

Fans and celebrities raise money at Ckeckatrade.com Stadium

Checkatrade.com’s charity football match, which took place at the Checkatrade.com Stadium last Saturday (July 25) was a resounding success, raising nearly £1,300 for charity through player sponsorship, refreshments and raffle tickets on the day.

Funds will be split between the Checkatrade.com Foundation and Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice in Arundel, West Sussex.

The match pitted ‘The Rest of World’, managed by former Wales and Southampton goalkeeper Paul Jones with celebrities such as singer Steve Brookstein and diver Peter Waterfield alongside members of the public, against a team of Checkatrade.com employees.

This was managed by the firm’s personal trainer Rich Scott, captained by Rob Moody and featured Big Brother winner Craig Phillips, who is an ambassador for Checkatrade.com.

The Rest of World were 5-0 up by half time, but in the second half Checkatrade pulled three back, including a fantastic goal from Craig Phillips, to make the final score 5-3.

“The Checkatrade.com team was disappointed to lose the game but we raised a significant amount of money for good causes, which is the important thing,” says Checkatrade.com’s fundraising manager Claire Allen. “The players were mostly Crawley supporters so they were delighted to play at the ground and are already talking about a rematch for next year.”

“A lot of people turned out to support us and there was a great atmosphere, everyone had a really fun afternoon. I’d like to thank the players, our referee, linesmen, Princess Goodwin of Horsham YMCA for the physio and volunteers who made it all possible, as well as the celebrities, Crawley Town FC and Paul Russell who provided kit for the celebrity team. Well done all!”
