Reds kick off at Oxford

17 June 2015

Kassam Stadium trip followed by AFC Wimbledon and Portsmouth at home

Reds will kick off their home campaign in League Two next season with a couple of mouth-watering games.

The season starts with an away game for the second year in a row as Reds go to Oxford United on August 8 and after the midweek Capital One Cup trip to Peterborough, Reds start their Checkatrade.com Stadium campaign against old rivals AFC Wimbledon on August 15.

Three days later the biggest club in League Two, Portsmouth, are the visitors for another game which is sure to attract a big crowd.

The month is completed with fixtures against sides we will be facing for the first time in the Football League. On August 22 we head to Cambridge United and a week later face Wycombe Wanderers at home.

Other dates to look out for are a Boxing Day clash at home to Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage which is followed two days later by the return game at Wycombe, Reds’ first visit there in the League.

2016 kicks off at Fratton Park, where Reds won on their only previous visit to Portsmouth, while the Easter fixtures involve a long trip to York City on March 26 (although this game may be brought forward to Good Friday) and a home date with Exeter City on Easter Monday.

An initial glance at the schedule illustrates how much more of a southern-based division League Two is, although lurking in the schedule are the long trips north!

In October, Reds go to Morecambe on Tuesday 20th followed four days later by the visit to Hartlepool. The longest trip of the season to Carlisle will be on Saturday, November 28 although Reds will travel in hope to Brunton Park having never lost there in the League.

There are also two long trips to the South West at the end of September. We go to Jimmy Dack’s old club Newport County on the 29th and then kick off October at Plymouth Argyle on the 3rd.

The season finishes with a home game against promoted Barnet on May 7, preceded by the relatively short trip to Dagenham & Redbridge for our last away fixture on April 30.

Other games which Reds’ fans will be looking forward to are the home tussle with Luton on October 17 while our first visit to St James’ Park in the League to face Exeter City is on November 14.
