Clinton back as guest of Former Players Association
Saturday's guest of the Former Players Association was ex-Reds' striker Clinton Moore.
FPA chairman Tony Vessey writes:
Clinton joined Crawley Town when I was managing the reserves in the Capital League in the mid-1990s and went on to become a first-team regular, mainly under Billy Smith, and also enjoyed a long career in local non-league football with Three Bridges and East Grinstead among others.
Clinton still plays the game - with a difference.
FootGolf, which you can play at Tilgate Forest GC, has exploded in popularity in recent years and Clinton has become one of the top players and earlier this month he took part in the second World Cup held in Argentina.
There was a team and individual competition played over a five-day period. Great Britain, including Clinton, were knocked out in the semi-finals by the hosts by the narrowest of margins, one hole. Clinton got a hole in one which I can assure you, from my own experience, is as difficult at FootGolf as it is with a golf club in your hand!
Clinton finished 20th out of a starting field close to 250 in the individual tournament.
With Clinton was our other special guest Paul Oliver. Paul is UK ranked No.1 and came fourth in the individual event at the World Cup. That is a spectacular achievement and both Paul and Clinton deserved the ovation they got when presented on the pitch at half-time.
Several ex-Reds including Tommy Warrilow, Mark Ford, Paul Adam, Viv Jeffrey and the 1991-92 FA Cup heroes, including Grant Gallagher, Dave Winterton, Craig Whittington, Tim Hulme and Manager Brian Sparrow, have all been guests of the Former Players Association so far this season with more to come.
