Reds appoint new manager

27 April 2016

Former Chelsea and Arsenal coach Dermot Drummy appointed Crawley Town's new manager on a two-year contract

The club are delighted to welcome Dermot Drummy as our new head coach.

Dermot’s appointment starts an exciting chapter for the club. He has signed a two-year contract with a year’s option.

Dermot said: “I’m delighted to be at Crawley and I am really looking forward to taking the club forward.

“Hopefully I can produce a team that plays attractive football that excites our fans and brings the whole club together – players, supporters and the people who work for the club.

“I can’t wait to get started. I’m looking forward to meeting the players and preparing for Saturday’s game.”

Dermot has appointed former Aldershot coach Matt Gray as his assistant.

He will meet the squad for the first time on Thursday to prepare for Saturday’s game against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Dermot has been instrumental in the development of some of the top young players in the country during his spells working in the academies of both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 55-year-old Londoner was on the Gunners’ books as a player and after a spell on loan with Blackpool in 1979, when he played a handful of League games, the midfielder dropped into non-league  where he had an extensive career with the likes of Hendon, St Albans and Ware, where he eventually took over as manager.

Dermot joined the coaching staff at Arsenal in 1999 and whilst there he helped develop players such as Cesc Fabregas, Jack Willshere and Fabrice Muamba.

His work was recognised by other clubs and in 2007 he joined Chelsea and won the FA Youth Cup for the first time in only 40 years.

He was in charge of the club’s under-21s, where he regularly managed the club’s youngsters against some of the leading clubs in Europe in the Next Gen Series.

After a spell as Chelsea’s international coach he left Stamford Bridge in January 2015 and later turned down the opportunity to manage Brazilian top-flight club Bangu.

Reds owner Ziya Eren said: "Dermot will bring top level experience and vital recruitment knowledge to Crawley Town.

"We wish him all the best for a long and successful tenure at the club.

"We thank our supporters for all your patience during these past few days and look forward to an exciting new chapter in the history of Crawley Town FC."

Look out for the first interview with Dermot on our website on Thursday
