Northern Ireland international arrives on month-long loan from Fulham

Mark Yates has today made his fifth addition to the squad this week by signing Fulham defender Liam Donnelly on a youth loan which will run until August 27.

Liam joined the squad this morning for training ahead of Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against Whitehawk.

The 19-year-old from Northern Ireland joined Fulham from Irish League side Dungannon Swifts and captained the side in 2014 when Fulham reached the final of the FA Youth Cup. In June 2014 he won his first international cap as a late substitute for Northern Ireland in a friendly against Chile.

He was named on the bench for the Whites in several Championship matches last season and was a regular in the club’s under-21 team. Last month he scored Fulham’s third goal in their 3-0 win over Reds in a pre-season friendly at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Mark said: “With Lanre Oyebanjo out until October we need cover in the right-back position and Liam is a player we have had on our radar for a while.

He’s as tenacious defender but also good on the ball and, as we discovered when we played Fulham a few weeks ago, he can score the odd goal as well!

“We’re delighted to have him with us and I’d like to thank Kit Symons and everyone at Fulham for making it possible.”
