Audio: Midfielder signs new contract

We're delighted to confirm that midfielder Jimmy Smith has today agreed a new one-year contract with Crawley Town with a further year’s option.

Jimmy, who joined Reds two years ago, has made 76 appearances for the club and made a successful return to the team at the end of last season after recovering from a broken ankle he sustained against Portsmouth in January.

The 29-year-old has been in the professional ranks for 11 years, having joined Chelsea in 2005 where he worked with current Reds’ Head Coach Dermot Drummy. He has now made more than 350 League and Cup appearances with Stevenage, Leyton Orient, QPR and Norwich among his former clubs.

Dermot said: “I’m delighted Jimmy has agreed to stay because his experience, a willingness to work hard for the team and his energy are all important attributes to have at this level.”

Jimmy is delighted to be staying at the club. “I know Dermot from my Chelsea days and I’m looking forward to working with him.

"We saw in the last couple of games of last season the way he wants us to play and I’m excited about that.

“It’s been a difficult couple of years for the club but I really believe things are improving, on and off the field, and I look forward to being a part of that.”
