Defender delighted to be with Reds

Summer signing Joe McNerney can't wait to test himself in full-time football for the first time in his career.

The 25-year-old central defender is one of four new captures by boss Mark Yates, who described the former Woking player as "one of the best defenders in non-league" when he joined the club last month.

Joe, who joined up with his new team-mates for pre-season on Wednesday, is hoping to live up to that billing.

He said: "It was a nice thing of the gaffer to say and it's now up to me to justify that.

"At my age I feel I am coming into my peak and that I needed to test myself at a higher level and I'm pleased to get the chance at Crawley.

"I was impressed with the Gaffer when we met and I know Jimmy (Dack) from my Woking days so I was delighted to sign for the club.

"Training has started and it's been really good. It seems like a good bunch of lads and we're going to be working hard for the next few weeks.

"I feel with full-time training I can become an even better player and that is my aim."
