FA Cup heroes back for Northampton game and a retro programme too

Reds are going retro tomorrow night as we remember a great day in the club’s history.

It is 24 years ago this month since the club beat Northampton 4-2 in the first round of the FA Cup at our old Town Mead ground, the first occasion Reds beat a League side in the competition.

To celebrate we have produced a special programme for Tuesday’s game and we’re hoping to have as many of eight members of the 1991 squad with us to enjoy our clash with the Cobblers.

Dave Winterton, Tim Hulme, Craig Whittington, Grant Gallagher and manager Brian Sparrow are all here and, other commitments permitting, we also hope to be welcoming Cliff Cant, Tony Towner and Damien Webber.

Former Players Association chairman Tony Vessey, who was captain that day, is looking after his old team-mates in the Mayo Wynne Baxter Lounge and they will be introduced on the pitch at half-time.

The programme features a version of the cover used that day. We have also reproduced 12 pages from the issue itself and there are some fantastic memories and pictures of the game, even for Northampton supporters!

It would be another 20 years before we enjoyed another FA Cup experience like it. The programme will be on sale from the usual sellers for £3 before the game.

Reds could make a bit of more recent history themselves tomorrow. We have never won five home league games in a row so why not come along and get behind your team whilst remembering a great occasion from the past.

Tickets are now on sale or you can pay at the turnstile on the night. And remember, if you are an existing season ticket holder you can claim two FREE tickets for the game.
