Head Coach looks ahead to Saturday's trip to Dagenham & Redbridge
New Reds Head Coach Dermot Drummy insists that tomorrow’s game at Dagenham and Redbridge is a contest that his team must perform in for the travelling supporters.
The home side have already been relegated and Reds are secure in the lower half of the table, but Dermot has dismissed suggestions that there was little to play for in Saturday’s encounter.
“I’m really looking forward to the game because when there’s fans that travel and pay money you want to do something for them and you want to put on a performance,” he said.
“I understand the remit of tomorrow and I understand we have to turn our fortunes around and so a win would be nice for everyone involved with the football club.
“There’s a lot to play for tomorrow – I don’t understand this ‘dead rubber’ thing. We are playing for Crawley Town. We’re paid professionals to do a job.”
The newly installed Head Coach has made no secret of the fact that one of his main priorities is to build a relationship between the club and the people of Crawley and that objective begins on Saturday.
“The fans affiliate with the town and with the players, and that’s what I’ll be emphasising to our boys,” he added.
“They will be people there – our supporters - who have paid good money to come and watch us and the very least we have to do is be professional.”
It will be a League debut in the dugout for the former Arsenal and Chelsea youth coach and he admitted that his new role presents him with a different challenge.
“The biggest thing for me to learn is the fact that now it’s all about three points on a Saturday and where we are in the league table," he added. "It was different at youth level where the emphasis was on development.
“It’s been great to come out of my comfort zone and to a certain extent this is what this new role is for me, I can’t wait to get underway.”
Wolves' on-loan striker Liam McAlinden is in contention after recovering from a hamstring injury but Lanre Oyebanjo (knee), Matt Harrold (knee) and the suspended Andy Bond all miss out.
