Freddie's England call-up

Goalkeeper in under-19 squad

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been named in the England under-19 squad for two friendlies next month.

Freddie, who helped the under-17s win the European Championships in 2014, has been included at the under-19 age level for games in Germany on Friday, September 4, and Croatia three days later.

It's all part of the preparations for the European Under-19 Championships which start in October when England will be in a qualifying group with FYR Macedonia, Italy and Finland.

Freddie is on loan from Newcastle United until January 2 and has kept clean sheets in his last two games. As part of the loan agreement, he spent three days training with Newcastle earlier this week before returning today to prepare for Saturday's match against Wycombe Wanderers.

Manager Mark Yates said: "It's a nice honour for Freddie and the club. He's been around England squads before and I'm sure he will enjoy and benefit from the experience."

Gwion Edwards is on standby for Wales' European Championship qualifiers in Israel and Cyprus next month. Gwion got his first taste of senior international football last year when he was an unused substitute in Wales' qualifiers against Cyprus and Bosnia Herzegovina.
