Striker Liam joins Reds

10 March 2016

Wolves' forward Liam McAlinden signs until the end of the season

Reds have today signed striker Liam McAlinden from Wolves on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old 6ft 1in forward, who joined Wolves in 2010, made his debut for the Championship club in April 2013 and he scored his first goal for the club five months later in a 2-2 draw against Walsall in the JP Trophy.

As well as making 19 appearances for the Molineux club Liam has had productive loan spells with both Fleetwood Town (19 games, 4 goals) and Shrewsbury Town (20 games, 4 goals).

This season Liam played 11 games on loan with League One Shrewsbury, scoring once.

Manager Mark Yates said: “Liam is a player I have admired for a long time. He’s big and powerful but mobile and he can score goals.

“It’s been frustrating for him not getting the opportunities he’d like at a big club like Wolves and he was really keen to come where when I spoke to him.

“We’ve got him for the rest of the season which will give Liam the opportunity to get a run of games in the side and I’d like to thank (Wolves manager) Kenny Jackett for allowing Liam to come to us.

“I’d also like to thank our new owners who have sanctioned the move. Since Rhys Murphy went back to Oldham we have been a bit short up front and the new owners have recognised this and acted straight away.”
