Defender signs until end of the season

The club are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Paul Connolly until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old from Liverpool, who became a free agent when his contract with Millwall ran out last month, can play at right back or in central defence.

Paul came through the ranks at Plymouth and went on to make 162 appearances for the club from 2000-08.

He then had spells at Derby and Leeds and loan stints with Sheffield United, Portsmouth and Preston before joining the Lions at the start of the season and making four Championship starts. In total, Paul has played 344 career games.

Manager John Gregory said: “Paul was out of contract and available on a free and we’re delighted to be able to bring him to the club. He has been training with us for the last week or so and has fitted in really well. He's very versatile and can play in defence or midfield so that gives us good options.

“He’s also got a terrific attitude. We’re going to see how things go between now and the end of the season but I think we’ve got a good player on our hands who can only add to the depth and quality of our squad.”

Paul cannot be involved in the squad for tonight's game against Tranmere, but he will be available for Saturday's trip to Walsall.

Look out for the first interview with our new signing soon on the official website.
