Rory's a Red

17 February 2014

World Cup striker joins Crawley

Reds have added a fourth player to the squad in the last few days by signing the experienced Rory Fallon on a contract until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old New Zealand international is hugely experienced, having played for nine English clubs before stints north of the border with Aberdeen and, this season, St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League.

He will be available for Tuesday's home match against Tranmere, subject to international clearance being received from the Scottish FA, and he will wear the No.9 shirt.

The striker began his career in 1999 with Barnsley for whom he scored 11 times in 52 games despite suffering from a broken foot during his time at Oakwell. He played on loan for Shrewsbury before joining Swindon in 2003 where he stayed for four seasons and scored 22 goals in 77 appearances.

Rory also played on loan at Yeovil while with the Robins before heading to Home Park where he made 149 appearances between 2007-11 for Plymouth.

He also linked up with Ipswich and Yeovil on loan during this time before heading to the other end of the country to play for Aberdeen.

He was with the Dons for two seasons and scored nine goals in 45 appearances at Pittodrie. This season he played for St. Johnstone in 12 games and scored his only goal for Saints against St Mirren in October.

Rory has also represented New Zealand and famously scored the goal that took the All Whites to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa in a qualifier against Bahrain and then played in New Zealand's three matches in the finals themselves, their first appearance since 1982.

Manager John Gregory said: “Rory hasn’t had too many opportunities in Scotland so he is really looking forward to a new challenge.

“He’s very experienced, knows this league inside out and can score goals. We’re delighted he is with us for what is going to be a very busy end to the season.”

Look out for an interview with Rory Fallon on the official website soon.
