Derby keeper arrives on loan

Reds have today signed Derby County goalkeeper Ross Atkins on a month’s emergency loan.

The 24-year-old has been brought in as cover because Johnny Maddison is suffering from suspected appendicitis.

Ross has been with the Rams since 2008 and has been made one first-team appearance for the club. During that time he has had loan spells with five clubs including two stints with Burton Albion, for whom he made 45 appearances in League Two in the 2011-12 season.

He started this season on loan with Conference club Alfreton Town but he has been back at Derby since the start of January.

Manager John Gregory said: “We are not sure what the problem is with Johnny at the moment and obviously goalkeeper is a critical position where we need experienced cover. I’m grateful to Steve McClaren for allowing us to bring Ross to the club.”

Ross will wear No.32 and is eligible for Saturday's game against Stevenage.
