Reds assistant manager Paul Raynor has confirmed that striker Calum Willock has not had his contract renewed and
Paul spoke ahead of the visit of Cambridge to The Broadfield Stadium on Saturday.
Raynor further added
that it was still possible that Reds star striker Charlie Ademeno could find himself on the move to a Football League club within the next two weeks
but added players would quickly arrive should that happen.
Paul said; “It is always sad when players leave the club and with Calum this is certainly the case as he was a popular
member of the squad but this season the Gaffer has been forced to make some tough decisions. Given that we have Danny Forrest fit and the promise of
young Ben King we felt it was in the clubs and Calums best interests that he moved on. We wish Calum all the best for the future and he will always be
welcome here anytime.”
Looking ahead to the visit of Cambridge United Raynor talked about his affection for the Cambridgeshire club;
“I had two very enjoyable spells at The Abbey Stadium although they were a little different in terms of the level we were playing.
“I first moved to Cambridge United when they were riding high at the top of the Championship and we were very unfortunate to
miss out on a place in the Premiership, only a playoff semi final defeat to Leicester City stopped us achieving our dream of a Wembley Championship
playoff final and a one off chance for the club to win promotion to the top flight of English football.
“The visit of Cambridge United is
always one I look out for when the fixtures come out as it is normally a cracking game and a good atmosphere.”
Leading the front
line for the Reds on Saturday will be star man Charlie Ademeno and we asked Paul to clarify the latest situation after Charlie’s move on deadline day
fell through; “It will delight both the Gaffer and myself to see Charlie pull on a Crawley Town shirt on Saturday as no-one wants to lose their best
players. However we live in the real world and if Charlie keeps producing the type of form he has been he will move on up the football ladder but I
can promise you it will only be done in Crawley Towns and the lads best interests.”
“As a management team , since our arrival at Crawley
Town, we have had no option other than to sell players like Guy Madjo, Steve Fletcher, Jon Paul-Pittman, Jamie Cook, Danny Mills, Ramone McCrae and
Jake Wright, all players like Charlie Ademeno who arrived here for nothing. The truth is that this football club needed to sell players at certain
times but there is no doubt how much stronger we would be if we had all those players in our squad and available to us.”
The Reds welcome
Cambridge United on Saturday, kick off is 3pm and this is sure to be a cracking encounter between two excellent footballing
teams.
