Conor Henderson and Reds relish Cup test

25 August 2014

Midfielder can't wait for trip to Norwich City

Midfielder Conor Henderson says the players are relishing the chance to showcase their talents on a big stage on Tuesday night.

Having knocked out Ipswich Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup, Reds’ reward is a tie at their East Anglian neighbours Norwich City on a Carrow Road ground that hosted Premier League football last season.

But having played in front of more than 18,000 on Saturday, when we should have come away with at least a point against Sheffield United, Henderson says Reds won’t be overawed by the occasion.

“Absolutely not,” he insisted. “We’re going there with a game plan and looking to win the game.

“Playing in places like Bramall Lane is not a new experience for most of the lads. Some of the youngsters like Bobson (Bawling) won’t have played in front of that many fans before but we all saw on Saturday how he rose to the occasion. He loved it.”

Conor got his place back at Sheffield United as part of a five-man midfield with Lewis Young and Gwion Edwards breaking from wide areas to support Izale McLeod.

“I thought it worked really well,” he added. “We were nice and solid but when we got the ball we passed it and caused them a lot of problems.

“I’m not sure if the manager will go with the same shape on Tuesday but we’re confident playing that way that we can cause teams problems.

“All that was missing from Saturday’s performance was a goal or two. We know Norwich won’t be easy – they will be flying after winning the local derby at Ipswich on Saturday and there is going to be a big crowd in.

“But it looks like a great place to go and play and show what we’re about. I’m sure our fans are looking forward to going up there and we will be desperate to put in a performance for them, the club and ourselves.”
