Striker relishing visit of Championship Ipswich to Crawley Town
Izale McLeod says Reds are relishing the chance of facing Championship opposition in tonight’s Capital One Cup tie.
Mick McCarthy brings his Ipswich side to the Checkatrade.com Stadium with both sides celebrating opening-day league wins.
While Izale’s late header sunk Barnsley at Oakwell, Ipswich were beating relegated Fulham 2-1 at Portman Road and are fancied by a lot of pundits to mount a successful play-off push this season.
He said: “People will look at this and say we have nothing to lose because we’re the League One club playing a top side.
“But we want to win desperately, for the club and our own professional pride. At home we need to make it as difficult as we can for the opposition regardless of what the competition is and that needs to start on Tuesday.”
Reds have a decent record against Championship opposition in the competition. Two years ago we knocked out both Millwall and Bolton Wanderers and in 2011 ran Crystal Palace close before going down to two Wilfred Zaha goals at Selhurst Park.
Izale added: “Josh and Joe, who were here when we played Bolton a couple of years ago, talk about that night when we came from behind to win 2-1.
“Ipswich will be tough but as long as they know they have been in a proper game I will be happy. But we are definitely going into it with a positive attitude feeling it’s a match we can win.”
