Josh Simpson says Crawley Town can't wait for the big kick-off at Barnsley

Skipper Josh Simpson says the squad are ready to go ahead of the big kick off at Barnsley on Saturday.

This has been Josh's fourth pre-season as a Crawley Town player and he believes the squad are as well prepared as they can be for their opening game in Sky Bet League One.

Josh said: "One of my jobs as captain has been to get the team spirit going among the lads. It was difficult for a few days because there was so many new faces but I think we have gelled really well as a group - the banter is flying now!

"But the mood has changed in the last couple of days. All we are thinking about now is going to Oakwell on Saturday and getting a good result for the club.

"I think the gaffer has put together a really talented squad. There's lots of energy in the group, bags of experience and we will go there on Saturday expecting to get a result, even though I guess a lot of people outside Crawley will look at it and think Barnsley, having just come down from the Championship, will be hot favourites."

Reds have never lost their first game as a League club and it's a proud record Josh is looking to maintain. "Yeah, it's been mentioned to all the new lads!," he added. "Those of us who have been here for a while are very proud of that statistic and it would be great to keep it going. We know Saturday's going to be tough but we are going there with real belief."
