Defender thrilled to celebrate debut with Cup victory

Sonny Bradley was a delighted man after helping Reds keep a clean sheet on his debut for the club.

The 6ft 5in defender played at left back as Crawley beat Ipswich 1-0 on Tuesday to reach the second round of the Capital One Cup.

And big Sonny felt the Reds' defensive togetherness was a key element in their win over the Championship side.

He said: "We did a lot of work in pre-season on defensive shape and everyone knowing their roles and I think we've seen the benefit of that in the first two games.

"The back five including The Beast in goal looked really solid again, as we did on Saturday against Barnsley. Keeping clean sheets is what it's all about for us. If we do that we know we have the players to get us goals at the other end of the pitch."

Sonny also agreed that Reds also looked the fitter side in extra time. "That's another area where we worked hard in pre-season," added Sonny. "We knew if it went to extra time we'd have no problem coping. We seemed to get stronger against a very good side and I think we deserved to win in the end."

Reds now await their second round opponents with the draw taking place on Wednesday night after Sky Sports' live coverage of the Coventry-Cardiff City tie.
