Dickson: Great to be back

20 December 2014

Defender can't wait to face Port Vale

Ryan Dickson is delighted to be back after a rapid recovery from hernia surgery.

The Reds' defender is in the squad for today's home game against Port Vale (3pm) just over two weeks after he had surgery.

With Gwion Edwards and Josh Simpson still out and Izale McLeod still suspended, Ryan's return is a big boost to manager John Gregory as Crawley play the first of three games in eight days.

Ryan said: "I nearly made it last week against Bristol City. If the game had been a day later I would probably have played so I can't wait for today.

"We need to have a good Christmas. Our League position isn't great but I think we're only four points off 11th spot so a couple of wins can change things very quickly and, looking at the fixtures, we definitely have the opportunity to do that over the next few days."

Ryan is used to not seeing much of his family at this time of year. "It comes with the career as a footballer but you won't hear anyone complaining. You get used to training on Christmas Day and preparing for a match the following day.

"That's what we're doing next week so we just get on with it. It would be great to go into the game on Boxing Day with three points today. It's not going to be easy but I think our recent performances have been pretty good. The Gaffer has challenged us to maintain those levels from now on and if we do we will win plenty of games and climb the table, I'm confident of that."
