Defender reflects on well-earned point against Chesterfield on Saturday

Ryan Dickson praised the Reds’ fans for “sticking with us” as the team again showed their character in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Chesterfield.

Trailing to a Gary Roberts’ goal, Reds levelled through Gavin Tomlin’s first goal for the club on 76 minutes while both Ryan and Jimmy Smith hit the woodwork earlier in a pulsating contest which was probably the best game of the season at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Ryan said: “It’s going to be a long season so we need the fans with us and I thought they were great on Saturday. They stuck with us.

“We have spoken a lot about getting them behind us from the start by getting on the front foot and I thought we did that.

“On another day we could have won the game but having gone behind we showed a lot of character to get back in the game. We just need to turn some of these draws into three points.”

Reds have drawn their last five in League One and are unbeaten in six and after Wednesday’s Sussex Senior Cup tie the squad will have ten days to re-charge their batteries in preparation for a busy Christmas which will see them play four games in 15 days.

“It will probably do us good and hopefully we can come back firing on all cylinders down at Bristol City in our next game. They look a very good side so we’ll be massive underdogs down there but that might work in our favour,” added Ryan.
