Bristol City boss promises JG some bubbly after Saturday's game
Win, lose or draw at Ashton Gate on Saturday, Reds’ boss John Gregory has been promised a bottle of champagne by his Bristol City counter-part Steve Cotterill after the Sky Bet League One game.
Speaking ahead of the game, Cotterill said: “John’s a really good friend of mine – he’s a top man and I’m looking forward to seeing him on Saturday.
“When we played them last season in the final game he gave me a nice bottle of champagne so I owe him one and it will be on the side waiting for him on Saturday.”
Cotterill has a high regard for what JG has done in re-shaping the squad since the teams drew 1-1 in the final game of last season – and their friendship goes back to the days when he was in charge of Cheltenham and John was Aston Villa boss.
He added: “We needed to organise a testimonial for (Cheltenham captain) Chris Banks and John brought a full Villa team down and was absolutely fantastic. I will never forget that.
“We looked at the teams from the game on the last day of last season and I think there is only one Crawley player still there and two or three of ours so there has been a massive turnaround.
“They have had some great results and since they went to a 3-5-2 formation they have had some success.
“But as ever it’s all about how we play. If we perform as we can then we can be a match for anyone in this division.”
