Skipper delighted at return to action

After a month without a game the players are chomping at the bit for Saturday’s return to action at Walsall, according to skipper Josh Simpson.

The squad headed to the Midlands yesterday to train on grass at the FA’s National Centre at Burton and today they will be preparing at Bodymoor Heath, the training ground of boss John Gregory’s former club Aston Villa.

Josh said: “It has been such a frustrating month, especially on Tuesday when most of us got here to find out the game had been called off. We were gutted and feel sorry for the staff, who worked hard to get the game on, and of course the fans.

“But we will get two good days of preparation in on grass which will make a nice change although to be fair training has been really good over the last month and the boys have remained positive.”

All three of our previous meetings with the Saddlers have ended in draws including last season’s trip to the Banks’s Stadium when two very late goals earned Dean Smith’s side a share of the spoils.

“It will be a tough game but one we are looking forward to,” added Josh. “They like to play and have some good players and have been in and around the play-offs all season.

“But we’ve got a really good group now and the new lads have fitted in really well. They are looking forward to putting the shirt on for the first time.”
