Big squad to travel to opening friendly at Billingshurst
John Gregory will field his nine new signings and several trialists when Reds kick off their pre-season campaign against Billingshurst on Friday, kick off 7pm.
Brian Jensen, Lanre Oyebanjo, Conor Henderson, Ryan Dickson, Sonny Bradley, Jimmy Smith, Matt Harrold, Izale McLeod and Gavin Tomlin will all be in action at the Jubilee Fields against the County League side.
Also looking to impress are several trialists and John is hoping to make at least two permanent additions to the squad by the end of the week.
He said: “We have had a few trialists in and a match situation is their chance to impress. I remember Tony Pulis using a phrase ‘midweek internationals’ to describe players who looked great Monday to Friday in training but didn’t perform on a Saturday afternoon. Well, the lads who are here will get that chance on Friday.
JG is hoping to have his full squad in place by the time Reds go to Eastleigh for a friendly on July 26.
He added: “By the end of this week I hope to have at least two more in. We’re very close on a couple of things. We’re still looking to bring in four or five but we will be ready and raring to go by August 9 at Barnsley, that I can be certain of.”
