Boss on arrival of Gavin and Sonny
Boss John Gregory is delighted to have added two more players to the squad after highly-regarded young defender Sonny Bradley and striker Gavin Tomlin joined from Portsmouth and Port Vale respectively.
JG met with Sonny before he went on holiday to Brazil and persuaded him to pledge his future to the Reds in League One, but he has been monitoring the centre-half for a while now.
“I first saw Sonny when he was on loan at Aldershot. He was at Hull at the time, who were about to get promotion to the Premier League, but I was impressed that he wanted to drop down a couple of levels and get first-team football rather than sitting on the bench at Hull,” said the boss.
“He’s a terrific lad who loves football. If he could play ten games a week I think he would. I spoke to a lot of people about him and they all gave him a glowing reference. He’s at a good age to develop and will give us another excellent defensive option.”
Tomlin has arrived from our League One rivals Port Vale and was coveted by several other clubs before opting to join Crawley.
John added: “Gavin’s going to be a very big player for us.
“He’s got a decent goalscoring record but more than anything he is really motivated to make a success of his career with us.
“He’s quick and powerful and I think he will score goals at this level. He had other offers so we’re delighted he has agreed to come to us.”
John also revealed that more new faces are on the way and he is hoping to conclude another deal soon.
He added: “I’m loving my time in Brazil but football business is still going on. My phone is red hot and we are very close to getting another couple of players in, hopefully before the end of the week. The squad is coming together very nicely and I’m looking forward to all the lads being together on June 30 for pre-season training.”
