Tomlin checks in as JG brings in striker

Crawley Town are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Gavin Tomlin for an undisclosed fee. Gavin joins the club from our League One rivals Port Vale, where he scored six goals, including four in successive games, in 28 league and cup appearances.

Kent-born Gavin, who is 30 years old, served his apprenticeship in non-league football, notably with Staines Town where he spent three years, before getting his break in League football in 2006.

Since then he has played for Yeovil, Dagenham & Redbridge, Torquay United, home town club Gillingham and Southend, where he scored 16 goals in the 2012-13 campaign.

Gavin is John Gregory’s sixth summer signing and the manager is delighted to have landed a player he has regarded highly for a long time.

John, speaking from Brazil where he is on holiday, said: “I’m delighted to get this one over the line. I have always admired Gavin. He is a striker first and foremost with a good goalscoring record during his career but he can also play in midfield or out wide.

“He’s two-footed and has got a terrific attitude. Everyone who I spoke to about him was very complementary about him as a professional and a person. He’s going to play a big part for us next season. A lot of clubs were keen on him but he’s coming to us and I am very happy about that.”

Gavin will wear squad number 21.
