Wilson on the move

25 June 2014

Catching up with our former players

We begin our round-up in the Conference where Glenn Wilson has signed for Aldershot Town.

Glenn was Salisbury City captain last season but departs the club following the Whites' financial troubles and demotion to the Conference South.

An unsung hero during his five years as a Crawley player, versatile Glenn racked up just over 150 appearances for us before departing in 2012. He spent a year at Gateshead on his departure from Crawley before signing for Salisbury on a permanent basis last summer after enjoying a loan spell at the club.

Continuing in the Conference and former Crawley loanee Dominic Collins has agreed a deal with Southport after leaving Hereford United. The ex-Reds loanee – who joined on a short-term deal from Preston North End in September 2010 - netted the only goal of the game as Hereford beat Salisbury City 1-0 in the Conference. Collins began his career at Preston – coming through the same youth system as current Reds striker Jamie Proctor.

He appeared twice on loan for us in the 2009/10 season before having a similar deal at Northwich Victoria. He joined Chester on a one-year contract in the summer of 2012 and impressive performances for the Conference North champions saw him move to Hereford a year later in 2013.

Collins will join former Crawley striker Richard Brodie at Haig Avenue, with Brodie agreeing a permanent switch to the Merseysiders following a loan spell with the club last season.

Brodie had a loan spell with Hereford United earlier in the season. Brodie only moved to his hometown club Gateshead in the summer following his departure from Crawley and appeared eight times for the Tynesiders, scoring twice.

Brodie arrived at Crawley on deadline day 2012 from York City. He scored 11 times in 25 starts before spending two years on loan with Morecambe, Fleetwood Town and Grimsby Town.

In the Conference North, Ashlee Jones has agreed a new deal with Lowestoft Town. Jones had a very brief spell with Crawley in 2008, when the keeper was brought in as back up to Simon Rayner. He failed to make a Crawley appearance and went on to play for Billericay, Boreham Wood and Canvey Island before moving to Lowestoft in the summer of 2013. He was named in the Isthmian League Team of the Year last season.

Eastbourne Borough have brought in Gavin McCallum ahead of their Conference South campaign from Sutton United.

A loan signing from Yeovil Town during the John Hollins days, the Canadian joined Crawley in 2007 with the Reds struggling in the Conference. McCallum found the net five times in 15 matches before returning to Yeovil once his loan expired.

He spent time at Weymouth, Havant & Waterlooville, Sutton and Hereford United and then had two years at Lincoln City before signing for Woking, leaving the Cards at the end of 2013 to return to Sutton.

In the Championship, Mat Sadler has moved to new boys Rotherham United on a one-year deal. 'Sads' was ever-present during his two years at Crawley and didn't miss a game during his time at the Checkatrade.com Stadium but decided not to take up the offer of a new deal at the end of the campaign. The Championship is nothing new to Mat who played for Birmingham City and Watford in the division.
