JG looks ahead to Shrewsbury test

John Gregory is positive that Reds will respond in the right way to a rare setback.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Gillingham was our first in eight Sky Bet League One games but, as will be the case every week between now and the end of the season, Reds have a quick opportunity to bounce back.

JG takes the side to the Greenhous Meadow on Tuesday to face a Shrewsbury side battling against relegation after a run of nine successive home games without a win. However, Reds have returned pointless from their two previous trips to Shropshire.

The squad headed north on Monday and will do a light training session on Tuesday ahead of the 7.45pm kick off.

John said: “You’re disappointed to lose any game but Saturday was really disappointing because the least we should have got from it was a draw.

“But you get games like that during the season and the key for me is how we respond.

“We haven’t had too many bad performances and certainly not two in a row since I came to the club and I don’t expect that to change tomorrow.

“The boys were hurting, as we all were, on Saturday and are itching to put things right with a strong and positive performance.

“It won’t be easy of course. This league is incredibly tight and there is very little to choose between about 15 teams. We are still focussing on trying to achieve two points per game between now and the end of the season. That’s our target and we’ll see where it takes us.”

Reds have no new injury worries and the squad will be boosted by the return of Josh Simpson, who was with his wife Laura on Saturday when she gave birth to their second child, Hugo Joshua Simpson.
