Josh: We need to bounce back

24 March 2014

Another big game on Tuesday against Sheffield United

Skipper Josh Simpson says the players owe it to themselves and the fans to bounce back with a good performance on Tuesday.

Reds were beaten 1-0 at Oldham on Saturday but defeat for sixth-placed Peterborough kept alive our hopes of pushing for the play-offs in League One.

FA Cup semi-finalists Sheffield United are Tuesday's visitors to the Checkatrade.com Stadium and the skipper is looking forward to bouncing back against one of the big clubs in the division.

He said: "To be honest, the result on Saturday took a lot of the shine off the result we got against Wolves last week.

"We were off the pace and lacklustre, particularly in the first half. We improved in the second half but Oldham made it hard for us when they got men behind the ball. We were desperate to build on the result against Wolves but it's gone now and we have to move on."

The Blades suffered their first league defeat in ten against Wolves on Saturday but Josh is under no illusions that it is going to be another tough 90 minutes against Nigel Clough's side.

"To be fair, we have tended to respond positively to a bad result this season and we certainly can't afford to play as poorly as we did for 45 minutes on Saturday against a good side like Sheffield United," added the skipper.

"But it's our home game and if the fans get behind us like they did against Wolves it will make a massive difference. It was one of the best atmospheres I've played in during my three years at the club and I hope we can get more of the same on Tuesday."
