Players in charity plane pull at Gatwick

Reds’ players and staff did their bit for Sport Relief at Gatwick Airport by taking part in a special charity pull of a Boeing 777.

The club joined local businesses, sports teams and companies along with Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker to help support the charity.

Billy Clarke, Josh Simpson, Mat Sadler, Kyle McFadzean, Sergio Torres and Joe Walsh were all part of the Reds team that pulled the 140 tonne aircraft 50 metres.

Our squad achieved a final time of 57 seconds, ranking them sixth overall out of nine teams. The winners of the event were Crawley Rugby Club with a time of 46 seconds.

Gary was on hand to give teams his support and was more than pleased to be presented with a Crawley Town shirt which was signed and will be used in Sainsbury’s Sport Relief raffle on March 21.

Mat Sadler said: “It was an enjoyable experience. We’re disappointed we didn’t win but it’s for a great cause so in this case not winning doesn’t matter. I’m sure if we had all of the lads down here we might have beaten the rugby players!”

A total of £2,000 was raised for Sport Relief on the day.
