Three new opponents next season

6 May 2014

Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rochdale all on fixture list for first time

Reds will face three new opponents in League One next season when the campaign kicks off on Saturday, August 9.

The end of the regular season on Saturday saw Doncaster Rovers join Barnsley and Yeovil in relegation from the SkyBet Championship.

The Reds met both Doncaster and Yeovil in the 2012-13 campaign when both were promoted with mixed fortunes. We took four points off Doncaster, including a 1-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium, and drew 2-2 at Yeovil.

Crawley have never met Barnsley before in a competitive fixture so Oakwell will be a new venue for our fans next season.

The same applies to the Proact Stadium, Chesterfield and Rochdale’s home ground at Spotland.

Chesterfield won the League Two title on Saturday with Rochdale and Scunthorpe also promoted. The Iron have come straight back up after relegation last season when we beat them 3-0 at home in our first ever League One game only to lose the return fixture 2-1 at Glanford Park in February 2013.

One more promotion place has to be decided with Southend facing Burton and Fleetwood playing York in the League Two play-offs.

We have met all four clubs before. In our first season as a League club we beat Southend 3-0 and drew 0-0 at Roots Hall, although the Shrimpers did knock us out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy that season 1-0, also at Roots Hall.

Two games against Burton, who we've also met in the Conference, saw Reds win 3-0 in December 2011 and draw 0-0 at the Pirelli Stadium in March 2012.

In our last season in the Conference we were unbeaten in games against York and Fleetwood, but we have played neither of them in the League.

The 2014-15 fixtures will be released on Wednesday, June 18.
