Crawley United come out on top
Crawley United Blues Under 11s were crowned winners of the first Youth Club Trophy in association with Crawley Town FC, the league’s Official Community Partner.
Six teams took part in this inaugural 6 a-side tournament on the Ball Court at the Checkatrade.com Stadium. The participating teams were Lindfield FC Juniors, Southdown Rovers, Ifield Galaxy, Three Bridges Youth, Crawley United Blues and Reds.
After group stages and semi finals it was Crawley United Blues pitted against their sister team Crawley United Reds in the final. After a tight contest the Blues came through 3-0 winners over their club comrades.
Crawley Town Community Manager, Birtug Kazim said: “We would like to thank the Mid Sussex League, children and parents for what turned out to be a fabulous day in the sun. The football was intense and competitive, but played in true spirit and with fair play."
All the players were then treated to a ticket to watch the Reds’ 1-1 draw against Crewe Alexandra where they had a great view of a stunning strike from hotshot Izale McLeod
League Secretary, John Edwards said: "This was a very successful tournament which was thoroughly enjoyed by all players taking part. The attitude displayed by these players was a credit to their clubs. This was one of many events that the League is offering to their member clubs and we must thank Crawley Town for their help in staging and organising this tournament."
Crawley United manager Danny Fuller was also full of praise for the joint initiative. He said: "The tournament was an absolute success from our point of view as it had a real local grass roots feel to it and gave us a strong connection to our closest professional club.”
