Dickson: We need to start on front foot

22 November 2014

Defender's rallying call ahead of today's game against Scunthorpe

Ryan Dickson says starting today's game on the front foot can help Reds get a positive result at home to Scunthorpe.

We go into the 3pm kick off against The Iron unbeaten in four League One games and have back to back home matches to look forward to.

Dickson, who is back in the side after missing nearly two months with an ankle injury, said: "We can't really afford to start slowly, especially at home.

"In the last home game against Gillingham we made a positive start. We got the crowd behind us and it was pretty good.

"There's no reason why we can't do that in every game, especially in front of our own fans. They turn up to support us but it's up to us to give them something to get excited about. We can't expect things to happen. The opposition will certainly want to make it difficult and we have to be ready for that."

Reds have switched to 3-5-2 in recent games with Dickson occupying a left-sided role in the middle. "It's worked pretty well I think. It means we can get more men through the middle and Izale or whoever is up front gets more support."

With Chesterfield to come next Saturday, Dickson accepts that the next two games are big ones in the context of the season. "Back to back wins could make a massive difference to our season," he added.

"There's no reason why we can't achieve it and then everyone at the club - players and supporters - can go into December with a really good momentum."
