Ryan Dickson back after injury but gutted to be out of the FA Cup

Ryan Dickson was pleased to make his long-awaited return from injury in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Yeovil, but nothing could make up for Reds’ first round exit.

The Glovers avenged the League defeat they suffered to Reds in September with a 1-0 win in which Dickson played his first game since mid-September when he injured his knee at Doncaster Rovers.

Ryan said: “It’s nice to be back playing again. It’s probably a bit early but we didn’t have too many options and I knew early in the week that I’d probably be playing.

“I am naturally quite fit and I was fine for an hour or so but I struggled after that which is to be expected. It was great to get 90 minutes under my belt and I was pleased to be thrown straight back in but I’m gutted about the result.

“We didn’t really work their back four enough. We didn’t play with a good tempo which is surprising because it was a cup tie. It is something we need to address very quickly as a squad.”

Reds are back in action on Tuesday when we entertain Gillingham in the area quarter-final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday.

“That’s now a massive game for us,” added Ryan. “We need to bounce back and put in a much better performance for ourselves, the club and the fans.”
