Breach and Bryant back at Reds

Former players return for Walsall game

The club were delighted to welcome two members of the 1983-84 Southern League promotion winning team to Tuesday night's game against Walsall.

Steve Breach joined the Reds in June 1977 and went onto become one of our longest serving players.

Initially playing in midfield, he settled into the centre of defence and missed few matches over the next 10 years.  He had the honour of captaining our first promotion-winning team for 15 years, as we regained our Southern League Premier Division status in 1984 and on leaving the club in 198, he enjoyed a testimonial against Chelsea.  Steve made 354 league appearances and nearly 500 in total.

Jeff Bryant joined us from Dagenham in the summer of 1983 and although Jeff was only here for a season he was a part of that same promotion winning side and although he was occasionally sidelined through injury he played in the last six games as we clinched the runners-up spot.  In all, Jeff made 30 appearances for the club.

Steve and Jeff got a great ovation from the fans when they were introduced before kick off.
