Izale: It's all about wins

7 April 2015

Victories are all that matter now says Reds' top scorer

Leading scorer Izale McLeod says the players have no points target in mind as the relegation battle enters its final phase.

Izale scored his 20th goal of the season in Monday’s 2-0 win over Oldham, a fourth win in six which lifted the Reds into 19th place.

But with just four points separating nine teams in the bottom half of the table who knows how many points will be needed to survive, although no club has ever gone down with 53.

Izale said: “We’ve got five games left and the aim is to win all five – we’re not thinking about any other scenarios to be honest.

“Who knows how many points we will need? The good thing is that we’re in good form, we are looking solid at the back and we are scoring goals.

“After the point at Crewe last Friday we said we needed to back it up against Oldham and that’s what we did. It’s a massive three points for us and I thought we thoroughly deserved them. We have to carry it on now into Saturday's game at Scunthorpe.”
