Defender on target in England for first time since 2008

Kelly Youga was thrilled to score his first goal in English football since netting for Charlton against Plymouth in November 2008.

But the Reds’ defender has form when it comes to scoring the spectacular scissors kick which put his side on their way to Saturday’s crucial 2-0 win over Notts County.

Asked if he’d scored a goal like that before he said: “Yes, in China. I came up for a corner and managed to get a good connection and score. But the goal on Saturday was more important because it helped us get three points.”

With Darren Ward also on target for the first time in a Crawley shirt, Reds secured a victory that lifted them out of the relegation zone with two games to go.

“It was a very important win and we now have two very big games coming up. We will be looking to win both of them and then we should be safe.”
