Wood: Form is good

Defender on a good point at Crewe and test against Oldham on Monday

Richard Wood is looking forward to Easter Monday’s game at home to Oldham and the chance to improve a solid recent record for Reds of one defeat in five.

Speaking after Wood helped the team keep their second clean sheet in the last three games, the on-loan Rotherham centre-half said: “We’ve averaged two points a game from the last five so we have some momentum and we need to keep it going on Monday.

“I was delighted with the clean sheet on Friday. As the Gaffer (Dean Saunders) said afterwards the least we should be aiming for in the last six games is a clean sheet because then at least we’ll get a point. It’s just a shame we couldn’t sneak a goal at the end there when we had a couple of chances.”

Richard started the Crewe game alongside Dean Leacock but after he went off with a recurrence of his groin injury in his first appearance since Dec. 26, Sonny Bradley slotted in alongside him at centre half.

“It was a day for defenders but we’re all gutted for Deano because he’s worked hard for three months to get back and then it goes again after 20 minutes.”

"We just need to regroup and go again on Monday. We still believe we can climb out of the bottom four and survive in this division."
