Boss praises travelling Reds

Mark delighted with support for his players

Mark Yates has praised the support of the travelling fans who saw Reds enjoy their best away win in the Football League since October 2011 on Saturday.

Goals from Roarie Deacon (2) and Gwion Edwards sealed a 3-0 success at Cambridge United, our best result on the road since the 5-2 success at AFC Wimbledon in League Two nearly four years ago.

After the game the squad and Mark and his assistant Jimmy Dack went over to acknowledge the tremendous vocal backing of the travelling Red Army.

Mark said: “The fans have been tremendous since I came here. They were brilliant at Oxford, Peterborough and again on Saturday.

“Hopefully they have seen, both home and away, that their team are prepared to put in a shift for the shirt. I have a really honest group of players and one of the things we have spoken about is making sure after every game we have left absolutely nothing on the pitch.

“We travel together as one – players, backroom staff and supporters. It’s a collective effort by everyone at the club and on days like Saturday it’s tremendous to see and hear the fans giving the team so much support.”

Reds return to action on Saturday at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

“Another tough game,” added Mark. “They are unbeaten and clearly on a roll from last season when they lost the play-off final on penalties.

“But it will be a good week for us on the back of Saturday and it’s a game we are already looking forward to. Hopefully the fans who saw us against

Portsmouth here last week will be back and we can create another good atmosphere for the players.”
